Radcliffe Arms, Hitchin re-opens!
Friday 19th June saw the Radcliffe Arms, Walsworth Road, Hitchin re-open after a closure of alomst two years. When it did close we first thought it was gone for good but it is pleasing to see a local businessman purchase and completely refurbish it.
It is a bright and airy pub with a new conservatory and full disabled access. Local real ale is stocked and opening night saw Buntingford’s Golden Plover & Polar Star on offer.

I was hoping to visit this pub on Saturday (20th) as I live round the corner from it and have been looking forward to it re-opening for ages. We arrived there at 8PM to be told by the lady on the door that the pub had now turned into a restaurant and was fully booked. She didn’t bother to ask whether we’d actually booked a table or not and was not exactly friendly. If you are planning on making a special trip to see the new Radcliffe Arms and you are not planning to eat there then it might be worth contacting them first to see if this really is the new policy or if the door people are being told to turn away people they think aren’t suitable for their new pub. I really wasn’t impressed.
I wandered down to the Radcliffe Arms on Monday night. The place was packed with people eating. The lady at the door was not letting anybody else in, not even to the bar.
She said: “This place is a restaurant now”.
Hi there,
Thanks for putting us on your website. We have got one more barrel of Polar Star on, hopefully this weekend, but Buntingford will be our regular supplier for ale, as we are a freehouse, and we might get some Red Squirrel next month too. Watch this space!
Regards
Stuart
Hi there, we have next week the Buntingford Garden City Best Bitter, made for the Letchworth Beer Festival, and also some Red Squirrel BSPA and Test Brew One is ready in the cellar, just waiting to be tapped.
Come and try them.
