North Herts District CAMRA members are drinking beer just the same as you, all across the branch area; but with over 220 pubs to keep tabs on, we would appreciate a little help now and again! To help us decide which pubs in our patch are worth considering for the national Good Beer Guide, we are using the following 6-point scale to record Beer Quality throughout the year. Please note that it is not a linear scale. Anything over 2 is good beer, just degrees of 'goodness'. Also we are rating the condition of the beer rather than if you like the taste or not. A good beer should be clear, have a decent head, have some CO2 dissolved in it, should smell pleasant, and should have no nasty tastes to it. It should leave a 'lace' of froth on the glass as you drink it. Finally we are scoring the beer itself, not the pub or the landlord. Please try to be as objective as you can when rating a beer.
Please note we do scrutinise the entries on the database, so don't try entering a load of 5s for your favourite pub, or 0s for one you've been barred from.
| 0 | Undrinkable - take it back, or can't finish it |
| 1 | Poor- anything from barely drinkable to just about palatable |
| 2 | Average - competently kept but uninspiring beer |
| 3 | Good - Good beer in good form, worth having another |
| 4 | Very Good - great beer in great condition |
| 5 | Excellent - The best pint you've ever had. Seasoned drinkers will award a 5 very rarely. |
We would welcome your regular input, to help ensure the very best local pubs make it into the 2006 Good Beer Guide.
