Local Pub Festivals

I’ve added the beer festival 20 -22 May, at The Old Fountain, Baldwin St, London to the list (stretching the definition of local!). It’s their first festival but I’m expecting good things since the pub is branch POTY winner, and a good visit at any time, with or without a festival.

Sat 15th minibus trip and Cider award

The minibus trip for Saurday 15th has been cancelled due to lack of interest. However, this does not affect the presentation of the Hitchin Beer & Cider Festival’s Cider Of The Festival award to the Apple Cottage cider producers, that will take place at 1pm in the Medieval Food Hall (Baldock Community Centre) during the Baldock Medieval Street Fair, which is going ahead as planned. It will be good if as many people as possible can be there.

AGM Results

This year’s AGM was held on the 1st March at the Three Horseshoes, Willian. The highlights were:

the accounts for last year were presented (but not yet audited)
new auditors were appointed to complete the above, and for next year
the committee was re-elected
the Half Moon, Hitchin, was chosen as the North Hert’s Pub Of The Year

The main event is, of course, the Hitchin Beer & Cider Festival on the 12th and 13th. Planning and preparation are well in hand, and there will be lots of traditional British beers, foreign beers, ciders and perries. Come and help us drink it! Better still, as the event is staffed by volunteers from CAMRA and the Round Table, if you are in either of these groups and want to volunteeer to help us serve it, contact the Festival Organiser in advance (and as soon as possible).

Peterborough Beer Festival trip Thursday 27th

Only a few people have indicated that they’re going to this, but it is still on. To be there for opening time, the suggested train is the 10:51 from Hitchin (adjusted as necessary if coming from a different station). The feedback so far is that it’s well worth the trip. We hope to see some familiar (or not so familiar) faces there.

Community Pub Of The Year nominations/voting

We will be voting for the “Ted & Josie” Community Pub Of The Year award at the next Branch Meeting on 7th September, at the Radcliffe Arms, Hitchin. If you wish to nominate a pub, please e-mail to secretary@camranorthherts.org.uk, a.s.a.p., or by Sunday 6th at the latest, stating in a few lines why you think it deserves to be considered (e.g. how it supports the community or charity work, etc.). If you can, come along to the meeting and join in the discussion and vote too.

the Windmill, Charlton, Beer Festival, 31st July to 2nd Aug.

The new landlord and landlady at the Windmill in Charlton, Lee and Sarah Armstrong, are planning to hold their first beer festival over this weekend. They expect to have 9 cask ales and 2 ciders on offer.

Windmill, Charlton, beer festival 31 July to 2 Aug

The new landlord and landlady of the Windmill in Charlton, Lee and Sarah Armstrong, are planning to hold a beer festival from 31 July to 2 August. There will be an marquee, as well as the usual bar. They are intending to have 9 cask ales and 2 real ciders. Charles Wells are alowing them to select beers from outside the normal list.

Branch Meeting, 6th July, Victoria, Hitchin

This evening’s pub ramble

Tring Brewery – Herts Beer Of The Year

The presentation to Tring Brewery for the Herts Beer Of The Year will be from 19:30 tonight.

Unfortunately, there was not enough interest to do a minibus as we had intended. Some people will be making their own way there, as of course, will people from the other Herts branches.
