Hitchin Beer & Cider Festival – wrap up

All is packed up now after another successful Hitchin Beer Festival, the fourth at Hitchin Rugby Club. We made some improvements which worked out well, a bigger marquee, the new KeyKeg bar, and a loads more beer!

The total through the door this year was 2,874, up again on the previous year and a total of of 9,000 pints of ale were drunk (not including the Cider, KeyKeg or Foreign beer). As ever the Cider was exceptionally popular and despite ordering extra, we still ran out late on Saturday evening.

The festival ran smoothly and was officially opened by Tim Farr (standing in for Keith Hoskins, Town Centre Manager), and a quick word from John Francis at the Comet. The Hertfordshire cider of the year judging completed with Apple Cottage – Special Branch winning best Cider, and Apple Cottage Perry Coma as best Perry. The Half Moon Hitchin we re also presented with North Herts Pub of the Year.

We also had some great food stalls, Now Now, Cantina Carnitas, Ronnies Tropical Taste, the Toast Office, Pipers Crisps, and the Rugby Club BBQ.

The festival is run entirely by unpaid volunteers from our supporting organisations: CAMRA North Herts, Hitchin Round Table, and Hitchin Rugby Club; who now all need a well earned break.
