On Saturday the 9th of April a contingent of North Hertfordshire CAMRA members visited The Crown in Buntingford to present an Eric Watson Memorial Award to publicans Colin & Cherry Harrington. Eric Waston awards are not given out lightly – they must be earned through years of dedication to the cause of real ale.
For over 20 years now Colin & Cherry have run The Crown and supported the cause of real ale by serving a good range of beers in great condition. Several locals I spoke to during the evening had actually been converted to real ale through drinking at The Crown – exactly the sort of thing we like to see!
An excellent evening was had by all, CAMRA members and local regulars alike. The real ales enjoyed on the night were Sharp’s Doom Bar, Charles Wells Eagle IPA, & Batemans XB. The Doom Bar is an ale I’ve not had much time for in the past, thanks to having a few dud pints of it – however it was in excellent form at The Crown and I personally thank Colin for demonstrating that Doom Bar is actually a really great & tasty bitter.
